HubSpot has launched a dedicated Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) tool designed to help small marketing teams monitor how their brands appear in AI-generated answers. The platform tracks selected questions across major engines including ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, providing reports on brand visibility, competitor mentions, and the specific sources cited by these AI models. While the tool offers a clear workflow for inspecting answers and planning content, reviewers note that suggested prompts often repeat similar questions and require careful editing to be effective.
The standalone AEO plan is priced at $50 per month or $45 when billed annually, which totals $540 per year before tax. This tier includes a 28-day free trial that does not require a credit card and allows users to track up to 25 prompts with a limit of 2,500 monthly answers. For teams needing more capacity, additional credits cost $20 per month for another 10 prompts and 1,000 answers. Users tracking multiple brands must purchase separate AEO instances for each entity.
Advanced features such as content generation and CRM-based prompt suggestions are reserved for higher-tier subscriptions. Generating a piece of content from an AEO recommendation requires a Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise plan and consumes 1,000 HubSpot Credits. Standard Professional plans include 3,000 monthly credits, while Enterprise plans provide 5,000, with unused credits expiring at the end of the month. Extra credits can be purchased for $10 per 1,000. The AEO features are also bundled into Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise packages, as well as the HubSpot for Marketers options, without an additional surcharge.
During setup, users define their brand, website, and target audience before selecting competitors to track. The system then suggests questions to monitor, though these initial suggestions may be too narrow or repetitive for diverse reader needs. The dashboard separates data into Answers, Prompt Analysis, and Recommendations, allowing users to inspect specific AI responses and verify cited sources. A key feature is the citation analysis report, which distinguishes between brand mentions and actual page citations, helping teams decide whether to improve their own content or seek coverage on external sites.
The tool generates actionable recommendations for owned content updates, social amplification, and outreach based on tracked data. For eligible accounts, these recommendations can be converted into drafts using the Content Agent, which utilizes brand voice and cited pages to create a starting point for writers. After publication, the Impact tab tracks whether the new page earns citations for target prompts, offering a follow-up check on the content's performance in AI search results. Experts suggest that while the tool is valuable for replacing manual checks, its effectiveness depends heavily on refining the initial questions and competitor lists to avoid repetitive data.
