Virgin Media O2 is reportedly preparing to cut an unconfirmed number of jobs as part of efforts to reduce costs and address its debt. Sky News reports that the planned reductions could number in the thousands.

The company employs around 16,000 people, meaning that a reduction of 4,000 positions would affect approximately 25% of its workforce. That figure comes from an unnamed insider and has not been confirmed by Virgin Media O2.

Non-customer-facing positions are expected to bear the greatest impact, while changes to the company’s management structure are also reportedly under way. Virgin Media’s broadband customer service performance has been comparatively strong, with Ofcom recording fewer complaints than its competitors. O2’s mobile service reportedly ranks closer to the top of the market, ahead of Sky Mobile.

Virgin Media O2 could provide more details during its third-quarter earnings call on November 3. The company’s revenue fell by 7.9% in the previous quarter, while its reported net debt stood at 5.89 times its annualised adjusted EBITDA.

The reported plans come as other telecoms companies also reduce their workforces amid financial pressure. VodafoneThree confirmed 1,200 job cuts across Europe in July 2026.

TechRadar Pro said it contacted Virgin Media O2 for confirmation but had not received an immediate response.
