Spotify's planned AI tools for creating custom song covers and remixes could launch as early as February 2027, according to a Financial Times report cited by Android Authority. The company is reportedly considering an additional charge of $4 to $5 on top of existing Premium subscriptions, although neither the timing nor the price has been finalized.

The launch could be scheduled around the Grammy Awards on February 7, or take place at another point during the first quarter of 2027. Spotify announced in August that it was working on features that could let users transform songs into different styles, such as turning a dance track into a country ballad, or create a version performed in the style of another artist.

Spotify is still seeking support from artists and record labels before releasing the tools. The company reportedly plans to compensate artists who allow their music to be used for AI-related purposes, but securing participation from major contemporary stars has proved difficult. The Financial Times cited Olivia Rodrigo as an example of an artist who has previously expressed opposition to AI.

One analyst estimated that 7% to 8% of Spotify's US Premium subscribers could be willing to pay for the feature. However, reactions from users have so far been largely negative, with discussions on Reddit featuring criticism of the proposed tools and suggestions to switch to competing music services.

The reported plans remain unconfirmed. Spotify has not finalized the launch date or pricing, and the company still faces the challenge of convincing both rights holders and subscribers that its AI remix features are worth adopting.
