Octopus Energy, CATL and Ampace have agreed to work together on future home energy storage systems, combining Octopus’s software and customer platforms with the battery manufacturers’ hardware expertise. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding, with the initiative initially focused on Europe.
Octopus is expected to contribute services including its smart tariff, mobile app and customer ecosystem platforms. CATL and Ampace will bring battery chemistry and engineering capabilities. The companies have not announced specific products or a launch timetable.
Potential areas of development include sodium-ion batteries, high-density cell designs and longer battery lifecycles. The partnership’s announcement also highlighted systems that can charge batteries during off-peak periods and send electricity back to the grid when demand is highest, potentially helping customers lower their bills.
Octopus founder and CEO Greg Jackson said the collaboration aims to bring hardware and software together in next-generation home storage. Ampace’s president of Energy Storage Systems, Jason Zhu, said the partnership could change how energy is delivered and used as systems become more connected and accessible.
