Safari is gaining vertical tabs and an Adaptive Dark Mode feature in Apple’s developer betas for iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3 and macOS 27.3. The changes are available in the developer releases for now, with no date announced for the full rollout.

Vertical tabs can be enabled from Safari’s View menu or Settings. On iPad and Mac, they appear along the left side of the browser window; on iPhone, they work in both portrait and landscape orientation. Tabs are represented by icons to save space, and users can hover over them for a preview of the page. Safari will also support pinning tabs by dragging them and organizing them into tab groups.

Adaptive Dark Mode is designed to apply a dark appearance to pages that do not offer one themselves. Safari can darken light backgrounds, adjust logos and graphics, recolor vector artwork, and account for raised surfaces and shadows. The feature leaves sites that are already dark unchanged, and developers will be able to use tags to prevent Safari from modifying specific elements.

The updates also add Safari tools for Siri on devices that support Apple Intelligence. With permission, Siri will be able to consider full web pages, including content beyond the visible screen and pages in hidden tabs. The tools can help organize tabs into groups and use custom actions to clear browsing history by topic, site or time period.

These features are currently limited to developer betas, which are early releases and may contain bugs. Apple has not said when the software will be available as a full release.
