Tall Tales & Murder is a six-part comedy crime series adapted from the novels by Caimh McDonnell and commissioned by RTÉ in Ireland and the BBC. The cast includes Aidan Gillen, Casey Walsh, Philippa Dunne and Aisling O’Sullivan.
The story follows Grinner McNair, played by Gillen, who wakes in a care home and claims to know where a hoard of Celtic gold is buried. His revelation triggers a chaotic treasure hunt, while the group discovers that the gold has a troubling history. The series combines comedy with themes of paranoia, revenge and criminal dealings.
After its Irish release in late September, Tall Tales & Murder is available in the UK on BBC iPlayer for free from Monday, November 2. Viewers need a BBC iPlayer account linked to a UK postcode and a valid TV Licence.
The series is also scheduled for BBC One Northern Ireland at 10:40pm on Monday, November 2, followed by BBC One at 10:40pm BST on Tuesday, November 3.
Tall Tales & Murder is not scheduled for release in the United States or Canada on television or streaming services. In Australia, the series is available through SBS On Demand.
Viewers outside the UK who are travelling may find BBC iPlayer access restricted by geographical limitations. The source recommends using a VPN only in accordance with the relevant broadcaster’s terms and conditions.
The main cast includes Casey Walsh as Paul, Ella Lily Hyland as Bridget, Aidan Gillen as Grinner, Philippa Dunne as Ma Baker, Packy Lee as Wesley Swanson and Aisling O’Sullivan as Matron. Brian Doherty plays Bunny, while Tiernan Messitt-Greene portrays Young Bunny.
Across the six episodes, Paul and Bridget uncover the dangerous history behind Grinner’s treasure. Their situation becomes increasingly complicated as old grudges, revenge plans, criminal figures and attempts to exchange Grinner drive the story toward a chaotic final confrontation.
