Dyson’s W1 PencilWash updates the company’s slim wet floor cleaner with a redesigned cleaning head, a larger removable clean-water tank and a longer-lasting battery. The review found it effective on dried spills while retaining the lightweight, easy-to-maneuver design of the original model.

The microfiber roller now includes stiffer bristles intended to scrub away stubborn dirt, alongside a metal comb designed to remove hair. The clean-water tank is easier to fill at a sink, while changes to the waste-water tank make emptying less messy. The mop is priced at $349.99 in the US and £299.99 in the UK, and launched in October 2026. It is not yet available in Australia.

In cleaning tests on sealed laminate, the W1 cleared flour, dried juice and ketchup in one pass. Dried toothpaste took about four passes, but the mop removed it without leaving streaks. After a regular cleaning pass, the floor was dry within around 10 seconds, according to the review.

The reviewer also reported more than two hours of runtime during active mopping. Dyson’s stated battery life is up to 45 minutes, compared with 30 minutes for the original PencilWash. The reviewer said they had asked Dyson whether the longer test result was expected.

Hair remained a drawback: despite the new comb, some strands wrapped tightly around a small wheel beneath the floorhead and had to be cut free. The microfiber roller also took two days to air-dry in the reviewer’s test.

The review describes the W1 as a strong choice for homes with extensive hard flooring, while noting that the original PencilWash has been reduced to $199.99 in the US and £179 in the UK. The W1 is a wet floor cleaner, not a vacuum, and neither PencilWash model is suitable for unsealed floors.
