A Reddit user identified as /u/antisocialnae says an ASUS TUF VG258QM gaming monitor blocked a bullet that passed through the wall of their home during a late-night Call of Duty session. The user described the $280 monitor as “the best $280 I ever spent” after discovering that it had stopped the projectile before it could hit them directly.
The monitor suffered damage to part of its LCD but reportedly remains operational. Images shared with the account showed sheetrock powder across the back of the setup. The user said they had already been considering buying a new display and currently have two other ASUS monitors available for gaming.
ASUS responded to the post and said it would investigate, although no replacement monitor had been confirmed. The incident does not represent a feature covered by the display’s specifications: ASUS TUF products may undergo MIL-STD-810H-related testing for conditions such as shocks, drops, vibration, temperature, humidity, and dust, but the source notes that the company does not test monitors for stopping bullets.
The bullet had already passed through the home’s exterior wall before reaching the monitor, and the display is not intended to provide protection from gunfire. Nevertheless, the unusual incident has drawn attention because the TUF monitor appears to have prevented the projectile from reaching the player.
